Sarcan and I host our guides and FAQs for The Secret World here because it's really tedious to write and maintain long guides and FAQs inside of forums. Also, this wiki engine offers a built-in Google Translate feature for every page, which can be helpful for TSW's wide international audience. Also, most of the bigger game wikis and guide sites are full of annoying advertising spam, and the wikis can be especially hostile to posting guidance and advice. Here, we can keep everything updated nicely, no one can revert or delete our stuff, and one link from forums will always point to the latest and greatest. Also, this wiki engine renders nicely iPad-friendly websites.

So enjoy what you find under our two respective Guides/FAQs menus, and keep checking this home page regularly for notices about new updates and changes.

BTW, the traffic to this site is not monetized in any way, and you are not subjected to any advertising. This information resource is just a labor of love.

Yokai - Male deck costume pics coming soon! - 28 Jun 2012 18:24

Tags: updates

The forum poster Warrender was kind enough to pass along male pictures (front and rear) of all the Faction deck costumes for all three factions, so in a few days you'll be able to see in-game screenshots of both the female and male versions of all deck costumes in my Faction deck costumes page. Thanks, Warrender! - Comments: 1

Further tweaks and additions as we approach pre-release tomorrow!

  • Added more details about how things work for characters on different dimensions. Check out the Dimensions, instances, and grouping mechanics section of my FAQ. Cabals will be especially relieved to learn that you can invite someone to your cabal regardless of what dimension they "live" on.
  • I added a few more useful Synergy combos to my build mechanics guide, and also added a list of the most useful Subtype passives.
  • I've received quite a few emails asking me to repost the old "Community Decks" page that I started and later pulled from the site for a variety of reasons, or failing that, to at least post my own Blade/Rifle "deck" that I'll be starting with for my initial vertical progression. It's actually difficult to prescribe cookie-cutter decks for people in this game because the game itself challenges you to use several different builds (or variations of a core build) along the way. You'll see. Regardless, since I wanted to record the easy-to-forget details of my own set of five starter decks (tested extensively on TestLive) that I know will be useful during my initial vertical progression, I figured there was no harm in sharing those details. However, I will pull a "Funcom" on you and make it a wee bit of an "Investigation Mission" on this site to find those details. Good luck and have fun! - Comments: 0

Yokai - I've finished my build mechanics guide with two new sections - 26 Jun 2012 19:17

Tags: updates

I was worried I wouldn't finish in time for launch, but I've finally finished adding all the things I wanted to say in my guide on Build Mechanics and Build Philosophy. I had started a new section on Synergy combos earlier, but just finished it today. I've also added an entirely new section called Yokai's advice regarding your first build or two. I think these two new sections provide a much better teaching approach than some of my earlier attempts at describing "newbie decks". To copy a deck blindly doesn't necessary help you understand why it works or how to play it well. To instead learn some basic combos and things that are helpful to know during your initial vertical progression makes it much easier to build a deck around the combos that appeal to you, and actually understand the deck that you've built. Yokai - Added a gallery of faction deck costume screenshots - 26 Jun 2012 13:14

Tags: updates

I've created a single-page gallery of all the three faction "deck unlock" costume screenshots. Sorry, female characters only (getting these all unlocked was a PITA). I'm still missing 4 of the Templar costumes, but I'll have those added within the next 24 hours. - Comments: 0

Sarcan - Beginning to add guides - 25 Jun 2012 21:23

Tags: updates

I look forward to working with Yokai to provide you the best guides possible for TSW.

I have added my Philosophy on Weapon Choices, which is a guide on how to choose your first two weapons based on what you like to do without getting to detailed in the advanced mechanics of the game. This is designed for new players.

I have also started to fill in my guide on Faction Decks, which lists all the Factions decks, what they look like, how they are used.

Check back often to see want new information we will make available. - Comments: 0

Yokai - I've made significant changes to the FAQ re Magical Protection and Physical Protection - 24 Jun 2012 13:43

Tags: updates

I've spent the weekend making some very significant changes to my FAQ regarding things I've previously stated about Magical Protection and Physical Protection. Essentially, I was working from incorrect assertions before about Protection working like "absorption armor" in other MMOs. It turns out that Protection instead is a percentile-reduction mechanic. - Comments: 0
